Traumatic Scars:

New scars are treated immediately; when sutures are in place or post suture removal to achieve the best possible result.

Existing scars are treated by stimulating the healing processes in the skin. Micro wounding is necessary to re-model the scarred area. Various techniques are used depending on the type and age of the scar.

Both new and old scars are treatable; Fraxel Laser treatment  and Medical Skin Needling  offer the best results

Scars acquired through accidents and burns are treated to improve healing and to improve their aesthetic appearance.

Types of scars

  • Atrophic - indented or depressed scar with loss of colour and bulk
  • Hypertrophic  - raised scar with excessive formation of scar tissue, limited to wound area
  • Keloid  - An excessive formation of scar tissue which grows beyond and above the  wound and may infiltrate into healthy tissue.

Whether scars are hypertrophic, Keloid or atrophic, treatment can achieve great results.

Acne Scars:

Acne scarring is treatable with a variety of non surgical modalities depending on the type of scar. Most commonly, acne scars are indented, raised and/or pigmented.

Traumatic scar and Acne scar treatments may incorporate any one or a combination of modalities:

Other modalities are often incorporated depending on the individual condition: Dermaroller, Medical microdermabrasion, chemical peeling, RF skin tightening,  Alkaline scar remodelling and silicone gels for hypertrophic scars.  It is essential that our clinicians assess the type of scar and plan a program that is individualised.
