Pearl Fractional YSSG 2790nm Laser uses an ablative wavelength combining the benefits of both CO2 & Erbium resurfacing lasers

What is the Pearl Fractional laser?

Pearl Fractional is a new, fractional, single treatment laser designed to improve imperfections due to aging and sun damage. Pearl Fractional offers the best combination of safety, patient experience and recovery time. Patients also notice a smoother, brighter complexion overall.

The Growing Demand for Fractional Laser Treatments

Fractional lasers were developed in two distinct phases. The first generation of fractional lasers were non-ablative and improved superficial skin imperfections with 4 to 6 treatments. In 2007, the second generation ablative fractional lasers were introduced applying CO2 technology--a change that achieved deep dermal effects and more dramatic results. However, the downside to CO2 is the risk of excessive thermal damage.

To improve upon current devices, Pearl Fractional's unique 2790 nm wavelength was developed optimizing the ratio of ablation to coagulation—while controlling thermal damage.

Pearl Fractional is a new fractional ablative laser with YSGG (2790 nm wavelength) technology. This exclusive laser wavelength was selected to maximize results and safety while minimizing downtime — all in a single treatment — through an optimized combination of ablation and coagulation. Pearl Fractional's YSGG laser aggressively treats the signs of photoaging, deep dermal imperfections and difficult-to-treat perioral (around the mouth) and periorbital (around the eyes) areas. Pearl Fractional presents fractional ablation in a new light.

The Pearl Fractional Procedure

During the procedure, the laser uses heat to create tiny holes deep in the skin. The process removes sun-damaged tissue and then stimulates the growth of healthy, new skin, full of fresh collagen. This plumps the skin from below, repairing photodamage and other skin imperfections.

What does “fractional” mean? How does the Pearl Fractional treatment work?

Fractional therapy describes a treatment that affects only a fraction or small percentage of the skin. With Pearl Fractional, laser pulses treat damaged cells deep in the skin. This fractional treatment selectively removes columns of tissue leaving surrounding skin intact. This treatment shortens healing time and stimulates the body’s own natural process for creating new collagen, plumping the skin from below and reversing photo aging and other imperfections.

  • Tiny holes (the size of a pore) ensure maximum results in one treatment
  • Controlled energy means a more comfortable patient experience
  • Treatments are safe and effective with rapid recovery
Why Optimize Ablation and Coagulation?

Optimal treatment results demand both deep ablation and thermal coagulation. Moderate levels of coagulation are needed to minimize operative bleeding, but healing times and related risks of complications increase with excessive zones of thermal coagulation. Therefore, the ideal device combines deep ablation with controlled thermal coagulation to maximize results while minimizing downtime. Due to its specific water absorption characteristics, YSGG is the only laser wavelength capable of providing the dual benefits of deep dermal ablation with a controlled zone of coagulation.

Mechanism of Action

  • 300 micron diameter microcolumns ablate tissue deep in the dermis (1)
  • Thermal coagulation provides hemostasis (2)
  • Lateral zone of residual thermal damage promotes long-term collagen stimulation (3)
  • Minimal thermal overlap reduces risk of complications

"Pearl Fractional was specifically designed with the YSGG wavelength to combine the clinical advantages of both CO2 and Erbium without the recognized limitations long associated with both lasers. YSGG is an extremely versatile laser wavelength that can be tailored to safely and predictably address dermal imperfections even in the difficult-to treat perioral and periorbital areas."

How many treatments are recommended?

Most patients will see significant improvement after just one treatment.

Who is a candidate for a Pearl Fractional treatment?

Patients with light-to-medium skin tones and skin imperfections due to aging and sun damage will benefit from a Pearl Fractional treatment.

What areas of the face can be treated?

Pearl Fractional can treat the entire face and is uniquely effective in the delicate periorbital (around the eyes) and perioral (around the mouth) areas. These areas often show the first signs of aging and can be the most challenging to treat.

How does a Pearl Fractional treatment feel?

Most patients describe the treatment as a series of fast, hot pinches. A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin prior to treatment to alleviate discomfort. The medical practitioner or surgeon may choose to augment topical creams with other medications based on patient need.

When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up?

Many patients see improvement one week after treatment. Maximum results are visible in one to three months. Patients may apply make-up five days after treatment.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl Fractional treatment?

After treatment, the skin looks sunburned and may be slightly swollen. Patients report little or no discomfort post treatment. During post care, patients apply ointment to the skin for four to five days and should limit sun exposure and wear protective clothing.

Can Pearl Fractional be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Many patients have a Pearl Fractional treatment in combination with other cosmetic therapies. These include other laser and light procedures. Discuss combination treatment options with your clinician.

How does Pearl Fractional compare to other fractional laser treatments?

Pearl Fractional’s unique laser wavelength offers a safe but intense treatment to reverse the signs of aging. This combination gives patients dramatic results in a single treatment with approximately one week of recovery. The treatment intensity can also be lowered to produce less down time. However, more than one treatment will therefore be necessary to achieve optimal results.
