Medical IPL Photorejuvenation provides an effective way to correct sun damage, reduce uneven colour, smooth wrinkles, reduce acne, acne scarring and refine texture. IPL technology is based on the same principle as laser but emits a broad spectrum of pulsed light to reach several layers of the skin simultaneously. The results continue to improve even after the treatment, as IPL stimulates collagen to rebuild

and rejuvenate the skin. A course of treatments are required to obtain optimum results, however this may vary according to individual requirement.

How does Photorejuvenation work?

IPL rejuvenates the skin by primarily addressing the colour and texture of the skin

• Various wavelengths of light are used to photothermally damage target tissue; to remove pigmentation & capillaries/redness.
• Skin texture is refined by stimulating new collagen and causing collagen contracture through heating and mild inflammatory skin response.
• Light energy absorbed by the chromophores changes to heat energy effectively causing targeted destruction of the pigmented areas (brown or red)
• Skin texture improves through controlled dermal heating, and micro- wounding which activates growth factors and repair.
• Histological studies show dermal thickening with increased, organized arrayed bundles of normal collagen in the dermis caused by remodelling after IPL treatment.  

The treatment steps:

1. Cooling the skin pre treatment.
2. A clear ultrasound gel is then used over the skin to guide the light and to protect the surface of the skin.
3. The appropriate filter is chosen by our clinician and the parameters are set according to the targeted skin condition.
4. Your eyes are protected by disposable adhesive shields or IPL goggles.
5. The treatment with IPL will not be painful, but ‘zap’ or ‘flick’ sensation is typically described by clients.

Immediate response:

• Skin may be visibly inflamed, usually pink.
• Cooling is applied to the area
• Within the week the treated pigmented areas will appear darker. Depending at which depth the pigment resides, it will either slough off over the course of a few days or fade gradually.
• Red veins will initially appear discoloured until they resolve.

Skin effect:

• Improved skin texture & firmness is achieved through gross dermal heating
• Collagen contracture, fibroblast stimulation via stimulation of the natural inflammatory response
• Decreased diffused redness and facial telangiecstasia via targeting haemoglobin (red pigment)
• Reduction in pigmented lesions via targeting eumelanin (brown pigment).
• Reduction in fine lines via increased collagen production and contracture

What conditions can Photorejuvenation treat?

Imperfections from Sun Damage and Photo-aging:

Photo ageing starts much earlier than one likes to imagine. Most of the damage to skin occurs in early childhood and throughout the teenage years.  This damage starts to appear sometime in our late 20s or early 30s when we look in the mirror and discover not only our first wrinkle but mottled freckles and areas of visible red capillaries.  As ageing continues into our 40’s and beyond so too does the unevenness of colour, texture and deepening of lines as laxity increases.

The skin exposed to sunlight ages differently to unexposed areas.  Exposed skin shows eventual signs of photoageing such as:

IPL technology improves both the superficial and deeper skin layers and rejuvenates the skin while at the same time delivering beneficial thermal energy to deep tissue. After a series of treatments, a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and the appearance of smoother, revitalized skin. The same treatment can be used effectively on the neck, the chest, and the hands.

Benign Vascular Lesions : Broken Veins and Capillaries:

The face has an extensive network of veins and tiny blood vessels called capillaries. Over time, aging, trauma, sun exposure, and certain lifestyle factors cause a number of them to break appearing as red streaks or blotches on the face. IPL therapy can eliminate these blemishes and reduce there re appearance by maintenance treatments.

Symptoms of Rosacea and Acne:

Rosacea is a skin ailment that leaves people red-faced from dilated blood vessels and chronic flushing. Rosacea can also cause pimples and/or blisters on the nose and cheeks. For women and men, IPL can successfully treat dilated blood vessels and redness without injuring the surrounding healthy, skin while greatly reducing the episode of flushing with long-term effectiveness.

Acne and Acne scarring:
