What are wrinkles?

Wrinkles or lines are folds in the skin caused by the ageing process, sun exposure and the repetitive movement of muscles.  Essentially they are creases which form over time due to a break down of collagen in the base of the wrinkle.

How do we reduce wrinkles or prevent them?

By injecting a muscle relaxant, specific muscles are targeted to reduce the over expression and consequent wrinkles that form.  Wrinkle prevention injections should be combined with other rejuvenation procedures such as IPL photorejuvenation, facial treatments such as peels and microdermabrasion and skin care with advanced vitamin skin therapy.   Avoid sun tanning and wear a broad spectrum UVA and UVB sun protection when outdoors for extended periods of time.

Should I have a wrinkle relaxant or dermal filler?

Preventative muscle relaxing injections and dermal fillers do different things. The muscle relaxant works best on wrinkles in motion – those which form due to expression but are not obvious when no expression is made.  Whereas dermal fillers literally fill the crease or void which has already been formed.

How long will the treatment take?

15-30 minutes.  The cosmetic injector will discuss with you the areas to be treated to achieve the best results.

Temporary Dermal fillers :

  • Full  lips
  • Wrinkles
  • Naso-labial folds
  • Crows feet
  • Upper lip lines

What is a temporary dermal filler?

This temporary dermal filler is Non-Animal Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid (a normal substance found in skin).  Hyaluronic acid is a colourless transparent gel which is injected into deep lines, wrinkles, facial depressions to add volume.  It is temporary, which means if not replaced, it eventually breaks down and is eliminated by the body.

How long does it last?

Temporary fillers last from 6 to 12 months approximately, depending on the area being treated and the depth of the void being filled.
Patients are advised to return at 6 months for lips and areas around the mouth, 6 to 12 months for areas of wrinkles with less muscle movement .

How long will the appointment be?

The appointment takes approximately 45 - 60 minutes and the results are immediate. Residual swelling in the lips from the treatment and anaesthetic will subside within 1-2 days after the treatment.

Is it painful?

Dermal fillers are injected into the skin, therefore some discomfort may be experienced.  For your comfort, we use local anaesthetic cream and ice. A full anaesthetic block is used when treating the lips.

Are there any common side effects?

Temporary fillers are well tolerated and do not cause allergic reaction (there are no animal products contained in hyaluronic acid fillers.  Some side effects include temporary swelling, redness, tenderness and occasional bruising.  Small lumps may form which normally resolve within days after the treatment.

Can I go back to work immediately?

Yes, however we recommend scheduling your first appointment after work.
